Sleepless is an experimental ambient album that takes advantage of organic sounds recorded in the wild. Each track takes you on a journey as the music and sounds tell a story of the night.
Side A Sleepless: The darkness is a tangled web, each thread a memory spun tight. Sleep is elusive. The air itself feels thick with the residue of grief. Shadows dance on the ceiling, mocking shapes mimicking forgotten dreams. Every breath a shallow gasp, every pulse a hammer against the ribs where pain lingers.
The throbbing hum of the orchestra is like the distant echo of a heartbeat in an empty room. Subtly processed field recordings of bells clang as skeletal trees weave in and out, their natural beauty warped into something unsettling by distortion and delay. Notes hang in the air, then fracture, splintering into shimmering shards by granular synthesis. A pulsing, recurring phrase builds, an undercurrent to the chaos, evoking a sense of impending doom.
Side B Night Vision: In the darkness, "Night Vision" unfurls as a tapestry of sound, weaving together the whispers of the night with an otherworldly resonance. The bass thrums like a living pulse, infusing the air with expectant energy as sounds from the urban landscape converge in a rich sonic mélange as crickets, wind, and distant murmurs intertwine in a delicate dance.
Voices whisper on the periphery, their words dissolving into the shadows, while bells toll softly, their gentle chimes punctuating the atmosphere like a series of cryptic signals. As the tempo shifts and swirls in a dynamic flux, you are drawn deeper into the night's labyrinthine rhythms.
The music on this album was recorded on a TEAC A-3440 reel-to-reel tape recorder. Various field recorders were used for environmental sounds.
