HawaiiWorms is the evocative solo project of Pete Collins, known for his work with the experimental hauntronica and darkwave outfit Flange Circus. September 2025 sees Pete branch out on his own with the Kiosk 67 EP, which follows in the wake of his summer single, Mirrors.

On Kiosk 67, HawaiiWorms draws from the ethereal melancholy of Piano Magic and The Montgolfier Brothers, the post-punk grooves of New Order, and the lush, cinematic soundscapes of The Blue Nile. Throughout the EP, Pete looks back to those influences to weave a sonic tapestry that is both intimate and expansive, and very contemporary.

With a focus on atmospheric textures created with hardware and software synths, heartfelt melodies, and introspective lyrics, the music of HawaiiWorms explores themes of memory, isolation, and the beauty found in transitory experiences.

“I didn’t set out to make a solo EP; it just happened,” says Pete about Kiosk 67. “Egg was the track that kick-started this all off – a track I wrote for the last Flange Circus album, Katabasis, but we decided it didn't quite fit the themes and sounds we were going for on the album. I used the hi-hat pattern for the song Diabolical Bird on that album though, so very, very astute listeners might hear that it’s the same!”

“This is a song which is probably the most ‘New Order’-sounding one on the EP due in no small part to my very extensive use of a Clone Theory chorus effects pedal on my bass guitar. I knew I wanted to release it in some form, and writing new material to go with it seemed to flow really easily once I started.”

“It’s been an interesting and enjoyable challenge handling all the instrumentation and vocals myself outside of a band context, and there’s been a mix of software and hardware synths used. I spent over an hour trying to get the perfect software Moog Taurus bass sound for Prism before it dawned on me that I had a Moog Minitaur synth sitting 2 metres away from me on a shelf...”

Talking about the shift to having vocals and lyrics, a rare occurrence with his other projects, “It’s great to have songs out there with lyrics, though I have to stress that I don’t really write from my own perspective. Mirrors' lyrics are slightly abstract, whilst Sand, which I guess is the ballad of the EP and is probably heavily influenced by Life Isn’t Finished with Me Yet-era Piano Magic, deals with a dream being had by someone who thinks their life isn't necessarily going in the direction they want it to. Prism is about cutting negative influences and feelings out of your life, whilst Egg gives people a respite from my singing by being an instrumental!”
